1. Ways to use FairTrip

Local mode

You can use FairTrip without creating an account. Trip, member, expense, budget, settlement, and display-currency settings created in local mode are stored on your device and are not uploaded to FairTrip's Cloud Firestore database.

When you enter a place name for a trip cover, Apple Maps processes that search to find the place and generate a map image. When you tap Choose Nearby Place, FairTrip requests foreground location access and Apple Maps processes your current location and search to return nearby places.

If you provide a custom HTTPS cover image URL, the image host receives the network request needed to load that image.

When FairTrip updates optional home-currency estimates, it retrieves public daily reference rates from an external data provider. The provider may process standard connection information needed to deliver the request.

Synced mode

You can sign in with Apple or Google to enable friend codes, shared trips, and synchronization. In synced mode, account and trip information is stored using Google Firebase so authorized trip members can access shared information.

2. Information processed

Depending on the features you choose, FairTrip may process:

• Account information: name, email address, profile image URL, authentication identifier, and FairTrip friend code.
• Trip information: trip names, dates, selected currency, cover locations, members, and archive status.
• Expense records: titles, categories, dates, optional selected places, amounts, payers, participants, budgets, balances, settlement amounts, and settlement notes.
• Technical information: device, usage, coarse-location, and diagnostic information that authentication and cloud-service SDKs may process.
• Support information: messages and attachments you choose to send by email.

FairTrip does not collect payment card numbers, bank-account credentials, or address-book contacts. It does not continuously track your location. Your current location is requested only when you use the nearby-place feature. If you select a place or Use Current Location, its name and coordinates are stored with that expense locally or, for a synced trip, in Firebase. Expense and settlement records are organizational information, not payment transactions.

3. How information is used

Information is used to:

• Provide local and synced trip-expense features.
• Authenticate accounts and maintain trip membership.
• Calculate balances, budgets, category summaries, and suggested settlements.
• Display optional approximate home-currency values using public reference rates without changing trip records.
• Generate Apple Maps covers and find nearby places when requested by users.
• Maintain security, prevent abuse, diagnose failures, and improve reliability.
• Respond to support, privacy, and account-deletion requests.

For users in the European Economic Area, processing is based as applicable on performance of the service requested by you, legitimate interests in operating and securing FairTrip, consent where requested, and compliance with legal obligations.

FairTrip does not sell personal information, display third-party advertising, or use personal information to track you across apps or websites owned by other companies. Firebase Analytics and advertising features are disabled in the current app configuration.

4. Service providers

• Google Firebase Authentication and Cloud Firestore provide account authentication, cloud storage, synchronization, and service diagnostics.
• Google Sign-In is an optional identity provider.
• Sign in with Apple is an optional identity provider.
• Apple Maps, MapKit, and Core Location process on-demand nearby-place searches and generate map-based trip covers.
• Public exchange-rate data provider supplies daily reference rates used for approximate display conversions.
• Apple App Store distributes and processes the purchase of FairTrip. FairTrip does not receive your payment-card details.
• GitHub Pages hosts this support website and may process standard connection information such as IP address and browser details for security and delivery.

These providers process information under their own terms and privacy policies. Information may be processed in countries outside your country of residence, subject to safeguards used by the relevant provider.

5. Sharing and visibility

Synced trip information is visible to the FairTrip users who are members of that trip. Trip members may see member names, expenses, selected expense places, payers, participants, balances, and settlements for the shared trip.

Information may also be disclosed to service providers acting on FairTrip's behalf, when required by law, to protect rights and safety, or as part of a business transfer subject to appropriate safeguards.

6. Retention and deletion

Local mode: records remain on your device until you delete the local account, clear the app's data, or remove the app.

Synced mode: account profile information is retained while your account is active. When you use Settings → Delete Account, FairTrip attempts to revoke linked provider access, remove your Firebase authentication account, and delete your profile and friend-code records.

Trips and expense records shared with other users are not deleted automatically when your account is deleted, because those records form part of the other members' shared trip history. Delete records you control before deleting your account, or contact support to request a review of remaining personal information. Some information may be retained where required by law, necessary to resolve disputes, or needed to protect the service and its users.

7. Security

FairTrip uses reasonable technical and organizational safeguards, including encrypted network transport and service access controls. No storage or transmission method can be guaranteed completely secure.

8. Children

FairTrip is a general-audience expense organizer and is not designed to knowingly collect children's personal information in violation of applicable law. A parent or guardian who believes a child submitted personal information without appropriate authorization should contact FairTrip for review and deletion.

9. Your privacy rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, restrict, object to, or receive a copy of personal information. You may also have a right to withdraw consent and complain to your local data-protection authority.

10. This website

This support website does not set FairTrip advertising cookies and does not include FairTrip analytics scripts. GitHub may process technical logs as the hosting provider.

11. Changes to this policy

This policy may be updated when FairTrip, its providers, or legal requirements change. The effective date at the top of the policy will be updated when changes are published.
